Caused motion events in Modern Uyghur: a typological perspective

چکیده
Abstract Talmy’s motion event typology (Talmy, Leonard. 2000 . Towards a cognitive semantics: Conceptual structuring systems , vol. 2. Cambridge, MA: The MIT Press) has served as an influential framework for exploring representation across languages. While confirming its basic premises, many studies argued that the cannot fully capture vast intra- and inter-typological variations. Consequently, proposals have been made to expand and/or reconceptualize it of constructional strategies encoding events. This article furthers this line inquiry by examining caused-motion expressions adult speakers understudied Turkic language, Modern Uyghur. Systematic analyses lexicalization patterns, is, which components are typically selected expression, how frequently they selected, packaged in syntactic constructions, show Uyghur is prototypical verb-framed language. It differs most strikingly from English (considered satellite-framed) terms patterns. Detailed comparisons with French Turkish (putatively verb-framed) reveal intra-typological variations systematically used constructions while exhibit much flexibility general preference satellite-framed constructions. Overall, our data lend support conceived strategy-based typological framework.

Left-edge tonal events in Kayardild (Australian) — a typological perspective
To date, most intonational typologies have been formulated on the basis of an analysis of a handful of the world s languages. In this study, intonational patterns were examined in an indigenous Australian language, Kayardild. This language appears to differ from other languages of the region in that intonation is not solely delimitative, and a wider variety of phrasal melodies are also observed...
متن کاملThe Ergative System in Balochi from a Typological Perspective
For the Western Iranian languages the transition from the Old Iranian to the Middle-Iranian period is characterised by – among other things – the loss of word-final syllables. This loss had a far-reaching impact on the nominal and verbal systems since it caused the loss of categories which had been expressed by suffixes. The consequences include the emergence of the so-called ergative system. ...
متن کاملQuantum Mechanics and Motion: A Modern Perspective
This essay is an attempted to address, from a modern perspective, the motion of a particle. Quantum mechanically, motion consists of a series of localizations due to repeated interactions that, taken close to the limit of the continuum, yields a world-line. If a force acts on the particle, its probability distribution is accordingly modified. This must also be true for macroscopic objects, alth...
متن کاملJapanese Pitch Accent in a Typological Perspective
Standard Tokyo Japanese has a rich pitch-accent system where multiple pitch patterns are differentiated from each other in terms of the presence/absence of an abrupt pitch fall as well as its position. However, this is only one type of system among the variety of pitch-accent systems found in the language. This paper looks at these pitch-accent systems from typological viewpoints, through a com...
